Negilla Sativa, the 'Blessed Seed' The Magic Rediscovered Black Cumin (Negilla Sativa) is an annual plant well known in the Middle East as the 'Blessed Seed' after Prophet Mohamed declared that' Black cumin heals every disease except for death' Mentioned in the Bible as 'Fitch', cultivated by both ancient Egyptians and Hebrews, was used in the Hebrew ceremony of circumsion as an antiseptic. The Plant is now gaining worldwide recognition as a powerful immune booster and anti cancer cell inhibitor. Negilla Sativa belongs to the botanical family Ranunculaceae, the plant grows up to two feet tall with milky white flowers. The black seeds are contained in seed pods and have an odor like anise. Believed to originate in Egypt, the plant is now cultivated in North Africa, Asia and Southeast Europe, Egypt being of the highest therapeutic properties according to most recent research. The ancient Egyptians used the black cumin as a digestive aid, medicine for colds, headaches and infections. In Tutankamon's grave, a bottle of black cumin medicine was found for his use in the after life. The herb was also valued in Europe for healing and as spice until the 18th C when it was used as a decorative plant in gardens. The plant is undergoing a revival in Europe and the US through extensive scientific research with positive results on the immune system and its ability to fight cancer cells, bronchial and respiratory problems, allergies and its stimulation of bone marrow and immune cells, with antibiotic properties that exceeded ampicilin. At the International Immuno-Biology Research Laboratory, South Carolina, researchers state "We confirm that our extract of NS inhibits cancer and endothelial cell progression, decreases production of the angiogenic protein-fibrolastic growth factor made by tumor cells and inhibits growth factor of endothelial cells…The activity of NS blocked the tumor growth and dissemination in metastasis and have remarkable promises for clinical use.' (Document #98638377) In the March 2000 Issue of Nutrition Science News, Herbal Aids for Cancer by Cindy L.A. Jones, PH.D. Black Cumin is cited as a Biological Response Modifier (BRM) "BRMs are compounds that have a unique effect on physiology and can reduce the side effects of cancer treatments, while at the same time increasing their effectivness. A BRM repairs damage to the body..It typcially acts by stimulating the immune system to restore optimal function. Nigella is considered a BRM because studies show that extracts from the seeds are toxic to cancer cells." |
In their book Black Cumin, the Magical Egyptian Herb for Allergies, Asthma and Immune Disorders (2000) both authors Dr. Peter Schleicher, a renown German Immunologist and Dr. M. Saleh, a leading authoriy on Black Cumin, state that Black Cumin is an extremely complex substance containing over one hundred ingredients and that its valued effectiveness is due to the combination of essential fatty acids, volatile oils and trace elements, vitamins, natural antihistamines and natural analgesics.
Nigellone semohiprepinon, an active healing ingredients in the Black Cumin , known for its immune boosting properties is also bronchodilator that expands and relaxes the airway which makes NS a very effective treatment for asthma and whooping cough. Nigellone also reduces the release of histamines into the bloodstream which makes NS a natural aid to harmonize the body's defense system against allergies. Thymohydrochinon another active ingredient, also acts as an anthistamine and pain reliever.
Black Cumin may be taken as seeds mixed with food, or crushed seeds mixed with honey, capsules or in a cold pressed oil which contains all the compounds of the seeds. Quality is key here. Black Cumin is not a quick fix though, it is to be taken for a period of four to six months for the positive effects to show, a recommended dose would be 25 drops of the oil 3/day for a healthy immune system, unlike drugs, there are no side effects.
